Sherfield Oaks GC Members Website

A welcome message from Keren, our club Captain

Welcome to Sherfield Oaks Golf Club and to the members’ website!

SOGC is owned and operated by Get Golfing CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation), along with twelve other clubs – see: https://www.getgolfing.org/

Handicaps and club competitions, including many charitable and fun events, are administered by The Club Committee. Positions on the Club Committee are mostly elected from and by the club membership, with Get Golfing represented on The Committee by Olly Wooster, SOGC’s Golf and Sales Manager.

INTELLIGENT GOLF

The first thing to do, as a new member, is to register on the Intelligent Golf system (IG) which is where you will book tee times, enter competitions, view competition results and contact other members of the club . You will probably have been provided with your logon details by Get Golfing, when you first joined. However, if you don’t have these, contact Olly Wooster at: [email protected]

SOGCMEMBERS WEBSITE AND FACEBOOK GROUP

The second thing to do, (apart from arranging your first round of golf), is to visit some of the other pages on this website, which will explain most of what you need as a member, relating to handicaps and competitions, including:

a) the “manual” for all our competitions, with formats, eligibility and other conditions of competition
b) how to apply for your first WHS official handicap or how to move an existing handicap that you may be bringing from a previous club
c) details of the R&A/USGA World Handicapping System (WHS), which is administered in England by England Golf
d) the R&A/USGA Rules of Golf and the SOGC’s Local Rules
e) registering with Intelligent Golf and installing the IG app on your mobile

If you need to obtain a handicap, or transfer an existing handicap from a previous club, please contact the Handicap Committee at:
[email protected]

MEMBERSHIP SECTIONS AND CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITIONS

The senior section is for members 55 years and older. The Seniors Captain is Sean Gavin. A friendly group of members play regularly in inter-club seniors matches and are joined by other members in playing regular weekday competitions and Monday and Thursday “Rollups”.
Rollup website

The Ladies section is growing rapidly and holds weekday competitions or roll ups on a Tuesday morning. The Ladies Captain is Lesley Brigden. The Ladies also enter teams for the Stoneham and Mapleleaf competitions against other local clubs. You are sure to receive a warm welcome from the Ladies.

The SOGC Junior Section is growing. We are hoping to recruit a Junior Organiser and I will update members when this has been arranged.

SOGC has a packed competition calendar, including the Saturday League and Knockout Matches, for which there are both summer and winter seasons. There are also monthly competitions on Sundays and midweek medal and Stableford competitions held throughout the year.

There are a number of “board events”, including the Richard Lewington Trophy. There is also the Ladies Vase, effectively the ladies championship and the Seniors and Veterans Championships, for seniors over 55 and over 70, respectively.

The principal highlights of the main golfing season at SOGC are the Club Championship, section championships, the annual “Ryder Cup” weekend competition and the “Race to Le Touquet”.

I have listed below contact details of the committee members, please feel free to contact any of us if we can be of any assistance. Alternatively, you can put any questions or comments in the comment form at the bottom of this page.

I look forward to meeting with you all very soon.

Regards
Keren Western, Club Captain
